Superboy

The adventures of Johnathan

Being proactive

So, here we are, our baby is 10 weeks old and the paediatrician says we should start with physio.. Okay.. Well my baby is only 10 weeks old.. Let’s go.
We have been doing physio ever since. Johnathan is now 25 weeks old. He has even started with occupational therapy… I’ve been fortunate enough to be on maternity leave for 6 months almost, I’ve had the time to really do exercises with Johnathan, and go to physio and OT (occupational therapy) with him every time. So we get exercises from the therapists and we try do them. Sometimes you just wanna be a normal mom and play with your baby and not worry about… If we did his exercises today. I’ve come to realise if all Mommies did these so called “exercises” with their babies, those babies will benefit just as much as what my baby is benefiting. So the therapy happens twice a week now. Most times he likes playing by the therapists but just sometimes he isnt in the mood for it. We have been doing therapy now for 15 weeks.. Almost 4 months of therapy. And we have really seen that our baby is doing better and getting stronger, what would baba have been like without the therapy? We don’t know. All we know is he is doing great. Great for our one of a kind baba.
As a mommy, you tend to compare your baby to others.. And sometimes that’s not the best idea.. Even if the baby you compare yours to is the same age.. Many factors come into play in each child’s development..
Since being a first time mom. You think your baby is perfect and he is doing really well and he is strong.. That he is for sure, however when seeing other babies… You start seeing what they can do, and you think… Mmm my Baby doesn’t do that… Okay so my baby is truly one of a kind…
For instance… My baby cries… LOUD… LIKE SUPERBOY LOUD. He goes from 0 to 100 in like a second. I tell a few people, they say.. No no, you shouldhv heard my child.. Okay. Loud crying: check = “normal”.
So he has rolled over once or twice and he sits on his own for a bit.. He doesn’t sit straight up yet… We waiting for that. I used to check online and see milestones for each week of a baby. He did reach all his milestones. But the whole rolling thing… Well we still practicing that. And I believe he will get it right one day.. And I’m trying to not think of what if he can’t. Because he will one day roll and crawl and walk, even if it’s with some help from his Mommy and Daddy.

About the medical aid… Well that’s pretty much depleted, about R13000 just for therapy. Not even talking about the trips to the specialist or the scans. Thank God we do have a medical aid and we are waiting for a PMB (Prescribed Minimum Benefit). And with that we can get the therapy for free.
So being proactive, even if our baby didn’t really need all the therapy he gets. We doing everything in our power to give him the best and God will do the rest.
