Timeline:
Johnathan Reinhardt is born, 06/11/2016. After an unsuccesful induction at 37 weeks, and 26 hours later, our little boy arrives into this world via emergency c-section. He was not breathing or screaming, no one was saying anything, eventually we hear little J give a small wah..
Okay so here I am, brand new baby and brand new mom. No signs of anything the matter excluding that baba doesnt latch properly and is very very tired. But we are told, he is just tired and all is normal.
Home time, we arrive home. This baby is the best behaved baby every. I had to set an alarm every 4 hours for him to drink.
So, all is well. Only thing that is a bit alarming is his head shape. We think, because he was stuck in the birthcanal, his head still needed to grow and it will come right. A few people kept asking will his head get better? I replied saying, I think so.. (Being a first time mother I didnt think anything of it).. It did seem to be getting a bit more prominent, long story short we eventually went for X-rays. As the Paeditriacian said she thinks his sutures have fused and he will require surgery to losen them.. We pray so hard for the X-ray to come back with positive news. YAY.. we get it. No surgery necessary. Johnathan was 4 weeks old at the time.
6 weeks check up:
Dr says he definitely thinks the sutures are now fused and he will need a CT scan and we will send them to the Paediatric Neurosurgeon… (Didnt even know that existed..). CT scan gets done.. I receive the report, I take a photo of it and then drop it off by the Dr. He examines them. mmm, definitely lesions on the brain? Im thinking… Lesions? What are lesions… Google later informs me that its damage… Damage to his brain??? WHAT??? Cant be..
Eventually the scans get sent to the Paediatric Neurosurgeon. We get put on the speed list and see the Dr when Baby J is 10 weeks old..
So thats that.
Baby has brain damage from oxygen deprevation due to prolonged labour etc.
Dr says the damage will affect his right side of his body, it will be weaker as well as his visual perception will be affected
NOT NICE NEWS FOR US… But little J is perfect to us!! No signs of damage…
